Starting on January 30, 2012 You will be required to self certify to a single type of commercial operation on your driver license application form. Based on that self certification, you may need to provide the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety with a current medical examiner’s certificate and show any variance you may have to obtain or keep your CDL. Examples of Self Certification • Non-excepted Interstate• Excepted Interstate (DOT Card not required)• Non-excepted Intrastate (DOT Card not required but, will receive a K restriction)• Excepted IntrastateThis video will help explain; however, the "U" restriction they
talk about will be "K" restriction in the
state of Oklahoma. Many of the new
regulations they talk about taking effect in 2014 are already going into
effect in Oklahoma. So get that D.O.T. Medical Card and get it
recorded at the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety testing station;
and, keep a record and documentation for your protection. ( Intrastate means you only drive as a CDL driver within the sate of Oklahoma and do not cross state lines or transport loads originating outside the state or ending outside the state. Certifying as with a "K" restriction does not relieve you of having a DOT Medical Card if you are operating outside of the exemption you claimed. (i.e. if you certified under school bus or government it only covers you when operating those vehicles). As a general rule it is best to get your DOT Medical Card before testing.
