For the basic control skills test, you will demonstrate your ability to maneuver a commercial vehicle around other objects. You will receive points for pull-ups and crossing over or touching boundary lines or cones. You will be permitted to exit the vehicle to check behind. When exiting the vehicle you must set your parking brake and place the vehicle in neutral. You must safely exit facing the vehicle and maintain three points of contact at all times. You must complete the exercise as directed. Specific instructions will be given for each exercise prior to performing them.

You will be required to demonstrate at least three (3) of the following skills, you will not know which three (3) until time for your test.
Straight-line Backing


The CDL Examiner will have you pull forward past the alley. Stop when he/she raise their hand . Then back straight through the alley until the front of your vehicle has cleared the last set of cones. You are allowed one free pull-up and may exit the vehicle only once to check behind the vehicle during this exercise. Please set your parking brake and sound your horn when you have completed the exercise.

1 free pull-up, 1 point deduction for each pull after that.

2 point deduction for each Encroachment

Failure to be in proper final position 10 points

Offset Backing




You will drive forward (stright ahead) to the boundary line ahead. Stop your vehcle, then back your vehicle to the opposite lane until the front of your vehicle has passed the first set of cones. You are allowed two free pull-ups and may exit the vehicle a maximum to two times to check behind the vehicle during this exercise. Please set your parking brake and sound your horn when you have completed the exercise.

2 free pull-ups, 1 point deduction for each pull-up after that.

2 Point deduction for each encroachment

Failure to be in proper final position 10 points


Parallel Parking




You will drive straight ahead past the entrance to the parallel parking space with your vehicle parallel to the parking area. You will then back into the parking space. You are allowed two free pull-ups and may exit the vehicle a maximum of two times to check behind the vehicle during this exercise. Your vehicle must be completely within the space when completed. Please set your parking brake and sound your horn when you have completed the exercise.

2 free pull-ups, 1 point deduction for each pull-up after that.

2 Point deduction for each encroachment

Failure to be in proper final position 10 points



Alley Dock



You will drive past the alley and position your vehicle parallel to the outer boundary. You will then back into the alley bringing the rear of your vehicle within three feet of the rear of the alley. Your vehicle must be straight within the alley when completed. You may not go beyond the outer boundary line located ahead (point to boundary line). You are allowed two free pull-ups and may exit the vehicle a maximum to two times to check behind the vehicle during this exercise. Please set your parking brake and sound your horn when you have completed the exercise.

2 free pull-ups, 1 point deduction for each pull-up after that.

2 Point deduction for each encroachment

Failure to be in proper final position 10 points (inside alley 3 ft. box)



 
 

Oklahoma PreTrip Inspection Test

You will demonstrate how to conduct a vehicle inspection, as you would normally do for any vehicle you about to operate. You will conduct the vehicle inspection as outlined in the CDL Driver's Manual. As you do your inspection, please point to or touch the item or items you are inspecting and fully explain what you are inspecting for each item. If you do not do so, you will not get credit for that item. During the test you will only inspect items down the driver's side of the vehicle or if inspecting a bus the passenger side of the vehicle. If there are any items that are unique to the other side of the vehicle inspect those items.

You will be asked to do a full form Inspection from a Random Sampling Form A, B, or C.
You will not know which you will perform until time for you test.
Oklahoma does not allow the use of a memory aid for the PreTrip Inspection Test.

Form A Inspection  
1. You will inspect all items on the front of the vehicle and the engine compartment area including the steering components and all items on the front driver-side axle. If there are any items that are unique to the other side of the vehicle you inspect these items.

a) (For Combination Vehicles) you will inspect all coupling items on both the truck and trailer.

b) (For Buses) you will conduct a thoruough physical examaination of all passenger items on the bus.

2) To completer the vehicle inspection you will perform an exnal light operation check and then a complete in-vehicle inspection and engine start.

Form A CDL Pretrip Test Oklahoma
Form B Inspection  
1) You will inspect all items from the drive door/fuel area to the rear of the vehicle. These items include the underside of the vehicle and one rear driver side axle. If there are any items that unique to the other side of the vehicle, inspect those items.

a) (For Combination Vehicles) you will inspect all coupling items on both the truck and trailer.

b) (For Buses) you will conduct a thoruough physical examaination of all passenger items on the bus.

2) To completer the vehicle inspection you will perform an exnal light operation check and then a complete in-vehicle inspection and engine start.
From B CDL Pre-trip Inspection Oklahoma
Form C Inspection (Combination Vehicles Only)  
1) You will inspect all of the components involved the coupling of the trailer. As well inspect all of the components of the trailer down the driver side and one rear axle of the tailer. If there are any items that unique to the other side of the vehicle, inspect those items.

2) To completer the vehicle inspection you will perform an exnal light operation check and then a complete in-vehicle inspection and engine start.


An applicant determined by an examiner to be cheating on any portion of an examination

(A) immediately forfeit the examination

(B) be given a failing score by the examiner
